Valedictory function of English Communication Course

The valeditory function of the first batch of Visually Challenged students of the “English Communication and Soft Skills development” course at INSIGHT was held in the press club hall, Thiruvananthapuram on 5th June 2009. Smt. Usha Titus, Secretary, Social Welfare Department distributed the certificates to the students.

The course aimed at improving communication skills of the visually challenged was initiated by INSIGHT, by providing the visually challenged with an intuitive,inclusive environment where they were encouraged to develop their language and communication skills through various exercises and activities. Course modules were designed in such a way that ample importance were given for essential tasks such as gathering information, expressing opinions, providing information, asking questions etc.

Insight conducts 3 day Autism ICT workshop

The ICT workshop for autistic children was flagged off by INSIGHT on 27th of May.The workshop which spanned for 3 days, showcased various softwares like Gcompris which were designed to help children with autism to communicate and learn in an easy and comfortable manner using computers. The workshop was further enriched by the esteemed presence of Dr Arun mehta , who demonstrated the ‘SKID’ framework, developed by him. At least 20 families took part in the event, which elicited very encouraging responses.Also feedback was obtained requesting for more of such workshops in the future.

Classes for programmers interested in developing applications for children with special needs was also conducted as part of the workshop. The classes, conducted in the afternoon session on these days were attended by around 10 programmers.
